MEISSEN® focused primarily on artistic advancement in the 1920s, the Manufactory attaining fresh heights under its Director Max Adolf Pfeiffer. The work produced by porcelain designer Paul Scheurich (1883–1945), considered the most important find for porcelain statuary in the early 20th century, proved to be of particularly enduring value. The way Scheurich coaxed the ceramic paste was magisterial. His 100-plus creations simply pulsate with vitality and sensuality. The skittish weightlessness and seemingly choreographed movements of his figures, fine examples being those from the “Russian Ballet”, put them on a par with the works of Kaendler.
